Tense final for Northsiders
NORTHSIDERS have claimed the Ipswich and West Moreton Division One cricket title with a four-wicket win over Eastern Taipans in the grand final at Baxter Oval.
The scheduled four-day match ended more than a day early but still lasted longer on Saturday than many had expected.
Chasing 43 to win, Northsiders, who had set the pace for most of the season before a pre-finals slump, lost six wickets before they could celebrate.
Northsiders' bowlers gave their batsmen every chance of victory after dismissing minor premiers Taipans for 74 and 73.
A man-of-the-match hasn't been declared but with a top score for the match of 29 not out and second innings figures of 6-33, few would argue against Northsiders fast bowler Kev Cumming.
