Tegan’s top effort for wildlife

A 13-YEAR-OLD Australia Zoo Wildlife Warrior from Bribie Island has been recognised among the State's top philanthropists.

Tegan Lather was named Junior Philanthropist of the Year at the Queensland Community Foundation's (QCF) 2013 Philanthropist of the Year Awards.

Since joining Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors as a Joey Ambassador in September 2011, Tegan has raised $42,000 for the hospital.

The $2000 prizemoney she receives as part of her award will help her get one step closer to her overall goal of raising $100,000 for the wild

life facility, which last year treated more than 6500 native animals.

"This is great. Everyone will learn more about the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital," the passionate Wildlife Warrior said on hearing of her award.

It was also good news for wildlife hospital officials.

"We are so proud of Tegan, who is one of our amazing Joey Ambassadors, and we are very thankful for her incredible fundraising efforts for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital," Wildlife Warriors' community fundraising officer Phil O'Hanlon said.

The award-winners included Adem Crosby, who was named Young Philanthropist of the Year just a few months after his death.
