Teen killed in hit and run remembered as 'loving, talented'

5PM: The family of Lachlan Douglas, an 18-year-old Geham teenager killed in a hit and run incident, have remembered him as an 'affectionate and fun-loving soul.'

In a statement provided to The Chronicle the family members said they would miss their son and brother.

"One of the most loving and talented people one could ever hope to meet, Lachie was loved and admired by many," they said.

"We remember him as a loving, affectionate and fun-loving soul.

"We will be forever grateful Lachie was, and always will be, a very special part of our family and we will love him always.

"We are heartbroken and ask that our family's privacy be respected at this most difficult time."

1PM: Police investigating the death of an 18-year-old man identified two witness they want to speak with.

They asked for the truck driver who stopped at the scene and spoke to other witnesses and another man who made enquiries about the death at the Cabarlah Hotel, to come forward.

Investigations indicate that around 8.50pm, an 18-year-old Geham man was walking along the New England Highway near the intersection with Reushle Rd when he has come in contact with an unknown vehicle.

A short time later, a motorist travelling southbound on the New England Highway discovered the man deceased and contacted emergency services.

Any members of the public who witnessed the incident or have relevant dash-cam footage are urged to contact police.

7AM: Police are investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred in Geham near Toowoomba yesterday evening.

Initial investigations indicate that around 8.40pm, an 18-year-old Geham man was walking along the New England Highway near the intersection with Rueshle Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.

A short time later, a motorist travelling southbound on the New England Highway discovered the man deceased and contacted emergency services.

Police are appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant dash-cam footage to contact police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
