Teen given bond after Magistrate's warning

A TEENAGER has been warned by a magistrate of the dangers of cannabis after police caught him with the drug.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court, Jake Keith Suthers pleaded guilty to possessing the drug.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick said police found the cannabis when they stopped and searched a car Suthers was in.

The court heard the 18-year-old had taken part in a drug awareness program since the offence took place in Karalee on September 29.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta told Suthers cannabis was not a harmless drug.

"If you have any history of bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia in your family, smoking pot it can bring those disorders to the surface. So keep that in mind."

Suthers was placed on a $150 four-month good behaviour bond.

No convictions were recorded.
