Teen drove quad drunk

A TEEN has been fined after being caught riding a quad bike while more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

Police saw Dean James Thomas, 17, on January 29 riding the quad bike on the road at Raceview with a passenger on the back.

The bike cannot be registered or insured and Thomas was unlicensed.

Thomas was breathalysed and recorded a blood-alcohol level of 0.169.

He pleaded guilty in Ipswich Magistrate's Court and was fined $850.

His licence was disqualified for six months.

Thomas told the court the incident was “sheer stupidity”.

“I'm not a big drinker, but when I drink a lot I tend to make stupid decisions,” Thomas said.
