Teen accused of rural robbery

A TEENAGER allegedly robbed an elderly couple at knifepoint at their rural property in Lockrose on Wednesday.

The couple was startled around 12.20pm when a stranger entered the home about 40km north-west of Ipswich.

It is alleged a 19-year-old Lockrose man approached a 67-year-old male, a long term resident of the area, at his home, threatening him with a knife and demanding cash and car keys.

The teenager allegedly then damaged property inside the house, causing the 62-year-old woman to hide and lock herself inside a room where she called triple-0.

It is alleged the teen made a getaway in the couple's car before police pulled him over on the Warrego Highway at Hatton Vale shortly before 1pm and he was taken into custody.

Adam Lawson appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday charged with one count each of armed robbery, burglary with violence and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, as well as drink driving and unlicensed driving.

The magistrate refused an application for bail.

Lawson will reappear in court on March 24 for mention.
