Tahlia willing and able – she just needs a job
BOONAH local Tahlia Nelson is not afraid of hard work.
The 19-year-old worked throughout her entire high school career, holding four jobs from Year 8-12. Since leaving school however, like many other local youths, Ms Nelson has struggled to find full-time work.
"I have been looking for a job since December last year, so nearly seven months," she said.
"I've applied for work everywhere for hotels to fast food restaurants, anything that's going I apply.
"It's not easy. It's been frustrating as there are always bills to pay and without an income, this task becomes extremely hard.
"At times it's also quite depressing because it seems like no matter how hard you try to get qualified, no matter what previous experience you have, it nearly seems impossible to actually ever be accepted into a job."
Ms Nelson said many of her peers were in the same situation.
"I have done as much as I can to try and get my foot in any workforce door," she said.
"I have updated my resume and cover letter, I have participated in a Diploma of Business Administration TAFE course. I've applied for every job that I can possibly be a candidate for and then followed up to make sure my resume was received and to let the employer know that I am a keen worker."
The Boonah High School graduate said, in a perfect world, she would start a career in the tourism industry but she was willing to turn her hand to other available options.
"At the moment though, I am really just looking for any work that I can find."
