TAFE scholarship applications close Friday

CURRENT and prospective students from Ipswich have until this Friday to apply for one of 100 scholarships through TAFE Queensland.

Launched last week, the program is Australia's largest vocational education scholarship offering, with $500,000 in industry-based scholarships.

TAFE Queensland South West general manager Trevor Schwenke said it was an exciting opportunity.

"The unique industry-focused approach of the TAFE Queensland Scholarship program means that scholarship recipients will receive training in the industries that matter to the local economy, which will give them best chance of finding a job or progressing in their career, " Mr Schwenke said.

Over the next three years, scholarships worth $5,000 each will be awarded to applicants who are looking to begin or further their education.

TAFE Queensland CEO Jodi Schmidt said the scholarships will remove some of the barriers to gaining a qualification, in particular the cost of studying.

Scholarships will be offered to study TAFE Queensland qualifications from a Certificate III to Advanced Diplomas across a range of study areas including hospitality, health services and automotive. A second round of scholarships will be available later in 2015.
