Political leaders band together in support of Steve
POLITICAL and civic leaders from across the state have banded together to support Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones and his family.
Cr Jones collapsed on Thursday afternoon while attending a meeting in Ipswich after having suffered a massive stroke.
Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio said news of Cr Jones's health emergency had shocked everyone.
He said he had been friends with Cr Jones for more than two decades.
"I am certainly aware of the passion Steve has for his community," he said.
"The Toowoomba community's thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this time."
Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale, who called triple 000 when Cr Jones collapsed, said the popular civic leader was a top bloke.
He said Cr Jones and his family needed the community's support during this difficult time.
"What I love about him is he lets nothing stand in the way of helping those in his community," he said.
"Now it is the community's turn to help and support Steve Jones."
Sydney radio host Alan Jones told listeners on Friday Cr Jones was one of the most inspirational people he had met.
State Lockyer MP Ian Rickuss wished Cr Jones all the best in his recovery as did Federal Wright MP Scott Buchhotz.
