'Super dogs' to help old, sick and allergic

AN animal keeping facility that will breed "super dogs" to assist elderly residents and others has won approval from Toowoomba Regional Council.

Max Dewdney now has permission to breed poodles, labradoodles and cavoodles.

The Dewdney family already has four dogs between 18 months and five-years-old.

Documents state Mr Dewdney intends to acquire more breeding animals, eventually housing two dogs and 16 bitches.

The dogs will be micro-chipped and registered with council and kept on a rural property in Rossvale, near Pittsworth.

The kennel facility will have three large communal play areas and the dogs will be rotated through the areas to give the grassy play area time to recover.

Each animal will have its own space within the enclosure.

The Chronicle understands the Dewdney family will primarily breed labradoodles, which will assist elderly people and people with disorders like epilepsy.

The sociable dogs are a cross-breed of a Labrador and a poodle and are popular with people suffering from allergies.

Labradors are known as intelligent seeing-eye dogs with a wonderful temperament, and poodles are known to shed very little hair.
