Suns' star signs for long haul

GOLD Coast Suns livewire Brandon Matera has displayed his commitment to the club by re-signing until the end of the 2014 season.

"I'm really happy to re-sign with the club for the next three seasons," Matera said.

"I have enjoyed my time so far with the Suns and I think that over the next couple of years it's going to be an exciting place to be and I know I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

The son of former Fitzroy and West Coast player Wally Matera and nephew of former Eagles stars Peter and Phil Matera, Brandon played 12 matches and booted 15 goals with the Suns this year before injury ended his season prematurely.

A strong, quick and skilled left footer who is equally comfortable in the midfield or conjuring goals as a creative small forward, Matera was one of four Suns players to be nominated as AFL Rising Stars in 2011.

Gold Coast Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft said the club was pleased to secure Matera long term.

"He is an extremely talented player who has been part of our system for a couple of seasons and we look forward to working with Brandon to ensure he fulfils his potential," Ashcroft said.
