Gayndah predicted to hit 40 degrees on Monday

SUMMER temperatures have come early to the Fraser Coast, with thermometers expected to hit 32 degrees in Maryborough and 40 in Gayndah on Monday.

Tuesday is tipped to be even hotter at 33 degrees, although the threat of an afternoon storm may cool things down late in the day.

There's an easy way to escape the worst of the heat - just head to Hervey Bay, where it will be several degrees cooler on Monday at 28 degrees, and 29 on Tuesday.

But spare a thought for those out west.

While sea breezes are keeping much of the Fraser Coast relatively cool, areas of the North Burnett such as Gayndah are likely to hit an incredible 40 degrees on Monday, after temperatures in the mid-to-high 30s during the weekend.

Forecasters predict the mercury will remain steady throughout the rest of the week, with highs in the low 30s expected for Maryborough and high 20s for Hervey Bay.
