Strobel family still seeks answers

THE SISTER of murder suspect Tobias Suckfuell has vowed that even if tortured she will never talk about the night Simone Strobel was killed.

Katrin Suckfuell is the sister of Mr Suckfuell, who was named by the NSW Deputy State Coroner as the main suspect in the 2005 murder of German backpacker Simone Strobel.

Katrin made the statement when confronted by Simone Strobel's distraught father, Gustl Strobel, who visited the Suckfuell family home in Germany and asked Katrin to talk about the night his daughter was murdered.

Mr Strobel alleges Katrin screamed back at him: "I won't say anything. Even if you torture me, I still won't say anything."

The Suckfuell siblings refused a paid trip to Australia to testify at the 2007 coronial inquiry into Simone Strobel's death, but the Seven Network's Sunday Night program revealed Mr Suckfuell was back in Australia, living in Perth with a new girlfriend, ski-instructor Samantha Moran, 26.

News Mr Suckfuell was living the high life in a beachside mansion in Perth has pained the Strobel family, who are still seeking answers to Simone's death.

In interview transcripts obtained exclusively by The Northern Star, Simone's parents, Gabi and Gustl, describe how they travelled to the Suckfuells' family home in Germany and confronted Katrin.

Recorded in August by the Seven Network, the Strobels talked candidly about the betrayal they felt after discovering Mr Suckfuell had lied to them and police over the death of their 25-year-old daughter, who went missing from the Lismore Tourist Park in February 2005, and whose decomposed body was found hidden under palm fronds six days later at the nearby abandoned Bocce Club.

"(Tobias and Katrin) told us that they went looking for her. And then we find out that Tobias never looked for her," Mr Strobel said.

"If you look at everything that Tobias told the police ... he puts the police in the wrong lead. A person that stands in the grave together with us, looking into the grave and that keeps lying to us ... that person is very sneaky and is capable of anything."

Yesterday Richmond Local Area Command crime manager Detective Inspector Greg Moore said even with Mr Suckfuell in Australia, the coronial inquest would not be re-opened.

"There is no proposal from the coroner for the inquest to be re-opened, or for Tobias to give evidence," Insp Moore said.

"However the police investigation is still active and Suckfuell remains a person of interest.

"There have been advances in DNA technology and we hope that may assist the investigation.

"We never give up."
