Will Stockland miss out on a $400,000 discount?

March 1:

THE DEADLINE for Stockland to start work and recieve a $400,000 discount has almost arrived.

The council is yet to hear any news on whether construction works will start before the offer expires at the end of March.

February 23:

STOCKLAND Shopping Centre has less than a month left to start work on the long awaited expansion before the offer for discounted infrastructure charges is off the table.

The Gladstone council is yet to hear from the retail giant on when construction will start after brokering a deal for a $400,000 reduction in charges if work on the expansion started by December (the original deal).

However when it became clear that deadline was approaching and the board was yet to give the green light the council extended the offer until the end of March.

Now the new deadline is lingering and the council says it's "unlikely" another extension would be granted.

It had been suggested the company was waiting for the Kin Kora intersection upgrade to finish, but council CEO Stuart Randle said the intersection was in working order and shouldn't impact on the construction.

The centre expansion was approved by the council in October 2013 and in April 2014 Stockland announced they would start construction the following October.

But more than a year later we are yet to see building preparations at the site.
