Stock saved as re-fit swamped
MR RENTAL Goodna owner Mark Norman managed to remove all the stock from his store before watching the $40,000 re-fit be destroyed by floods.
When it was announced the Goodna area was going to be affected Mark and wife Liz, who also own Mr Rental Ipswich and Toowoomba, quickly moved the stock – which included brand new rental TVs, stereos, computers and fridges – to a safe holding-area before the water finished at almost one metre above the ceiling, destroying months of renovations and a new fit-out.
Mr Norman said they were lucky enough to at least have time to salvage the stock before the flood hit.
“We had almost no warning at our Toowoomba store where the guys got trapped inside by the raising water pressure as they tried to save the stock. I had to smash a window to let them out,” he said.
He said they had been trying to reopen the Goodna store but the extent of the damage was making it impossible and they would take it one day at a time.
“We’ve been so grateful for the support from fellow franchisees and the local volunteers who have been helping us throughout it all,” he said.
Mr Rental CEO Glen Hickman said the floods had left a lot of communities in an unfortunate position and to help them they would offer a discount on rentals.
“We are offering flood victims no deposit and four weeks rent free on any new 12 month contracts so they can get their houses back-to-normal again without the full financial pressure,” he said.
“It’s a small measure but it will just allow people a little more breathing room”
Mr Norman said the biggest challenge following the floods was sorting out all the details.
“Two days of destruction and we have a tsunami of paperwork to get through for insurance purposes,” he said.
