LETTER: Stimulate the economy by drought proofing country

THE Australian economy is in trouble.

Our farmers are in dire straights with drought sending thousands broke.

We need to stimulate the economy and we need to drought proof the country and regional areas.

It's time to integrate major projects to create work for the thousands of people that are going to be out of work from the economic downturn.

And it's time to build huge dams in north Queensland and to run pipelines from the north to the west and south west of Queensland and another pipeline from Western Australia to western NSW (Broken Hill area), sending water to the north western areas of NSW and the western area of Victoria.

We also need to clean out river systems like the Dawson, Fitzroy, Mackenzie and other rivers, and use them to not only hold water but to transfer water to areas like the Murray river system.

It is imperative with the increase in of population in Australia over the next 50 years to insure a constant supply of potable water for human consumption and water for all facets of farming.
