'Stay one more day' is a great local tourism campaign idea
TO Graeme Day of Floating Images, in response to your letter printed in the Qld Times on February 23.
Ipswich has long been recognised as a destination for day trippers and overnight stays and in my opinion a targeted campaign encouraging visitors to 'stay just one more day' would be an opportunity to harness more of the tourism dollar into the local economy.
"Stay just one more day" could be promoted through Discover Ipswich Pop Up Stands in some of the major shopping centres within a 400km radius. These stands should be co- financed and manned by Council staff and tourism operators with strong cross promotion with attractions and events.
Grey nomads are one of the largest demographics for overnight and short stay tourism.
These travellers talk to each other and there is nothing better or more cost effective than word of mouth advertising.
Promote the city and the themed campaign to them with representation at caravan and camping shows held in regional and capital cities.
Compliment this with a strong internet and social media campaign and most bases should be covered.
