State funding for notorious flood-prone sites at Witheren

MAYOR John Brent has delivered on his promise to assist flood-prone communities in the Scenic Rim by successfully securing State Government funding for pipeline upgrades and improvements in Canungra.

The $276,000 funding, under the Queeensland Government's Community Resilience Fund (CRF), will assist in the construction and upgrading of culverts at notorious flood-prone sites on Upper Coomera Road at Witheren.

Mayor Brent has seen firsthand flooding problems affecting the local community and says the culverts will help ease concerns held by local residents while also improving road access.

"This was an ongoing issue the locals wanted fixed but cost was always the problem but Council persevered. Finally, State Government funds have been allocated and the culvert upgrades can commence as soon as possible."
