Tough test for St Peter Claver High

ST PETER Claver High firsts have a mountain to climb.

At their previous meeting with Ippy High firsts this season, they lost 48-12 and have serious injury concerns to deal with this time.

Five-eighth Kade McGarrigal, centre Daniel Ioane, hooker Jamie Hogwarth and prop Papu Avia are all missing from the Gee Shield final line-up.

It means extra pressure and responsibility on halfback and captain Adrian Elder.

"A couple of others are in doubt but they'll push through," SPCC coach Todd Riggs said.

"We're not flush with depth.

"But I'm confident the best 17 we can field will have a go."

Whether that is enough to push ISHS depends on what mood the favourites show up in.

"If they play to form, it's going to be a challenge for us," Riggs said.

"But I'm sure they've got some injury concerns as well.

"For us it just comes down to the ruck. Our attack will be fine.

"We've got structures in place to make us metres. But last time we played, their contact was far better. We need to do everything humanly possible, without giving away penalties, to slow down the play-the-ball."
