Springfield's grand vision coming to life
THE WATER has filled council's massive Robelle Lagoon, one of the many projects on target to open later this year in the Springfield area.
It's hard to believe only 20% of Springfield Land Corporation's master plan has been developed.
The development is now home to 25,000 and that number will grow to 86,000, injecting $32 billion of investment into the city.
Springfield's claim to be Australia's fastest emerging new city has never been more evident as development of some of the region's biggest infrastructure projects come to life in the coming months.
The Dusit Thani Brookwater Resort and Spa, Robelle Domain Lagoon, Stage 2 of Orion Springfield Central, Greater Springfield Veterinary Hospital, Bunnings Springfield Central, USQ Springfield's expansion, Parkside apartments and the Mater Private Hospital Springfield are among the more visable projects.
Local councillor David Morrison said the Springfield development had been the catalyst for the transformation of Ipswich City.
"I believe if it was not for what has and is happening in the Springfield Development then many other developments within the city of Ipswich simply could not happen now including the commencement of the Ripley Valley," Cr Morrison said.
"The eyes of many national and international developers look at what has happened and is planned for the Springfield area with amazement."
Work is set to start on the $550 million Dusit Thani Brookwater Resort and Spa within the coming weeks.
Once completed the resort will cater for up to 1500 guests and include a convention centre, water park, retail emporium, restaurants, recreation clubs and a tennis complex.
The project is expected to be completed by December 2016.The Mater Private Hospital Springfield opens in December. The $85 million Stage One building is now complete.
The region's first dedicated after-hours veterinary hospital will open on Monday.The Greater Springfield Veterinary Hospital is an add-on for the already established Springfield District Vets.
The $1.3 million facility is based at the new industrial estate in Technology Dr, Augustine Heights.
The lagoon at Robelle Domain is planned to open in September.
More than $10 million was allocated to the Stage 2 works of Robelle Domain Parklands, which features a 200m lagoon, water features, lifesaver rooms and changing facilities.
Work on the project is steadily moving along, with 2.75 million litres of water having already been poured into the pool area.
Cr Morrison said the project was 80% complete, with landscaping works around the pool still to be completed.
"The pool is divided up into three sections catering for people of all ages," he said.
On each side of the lagoon will be an area for babies and toddlers, while the main body of the lagoon will be 1.5m deep.
At nearby Orion Springfield Central, Stage 2 works are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The additional 31,545sq m will include Coles, Target, Event Cinemas, up to 100 specialty tenants and dozens of new restaurants.
The 16,000sq m Bunnings Springfield Central store will also open late in the year.
Construction is about to start on stage one of Parkside one and two-bedroom apartments overlooking Robelle Domain.
