Spillway gate reopened at Wivenhoe

THURSDAY afternoon’s flooding thunderstorms have forced the South-East Queensland Water Grid authority to reopen one of the spillway gates at Wivenhoe Dam, west from Ipswich.

The gate was opened at 6pm yesterday, having only been shut for a day following minor releases since Monday.

A water grid spokesman said that based on the current forecast, the gate was expected to remain open into next week.

Releases from Somerset Dam into Wivenhoe Dam have been reduced to about 6000 megalitres per day.
