Social health expert to speak

BRITISH expert Emeritus Professor Richard Wilkinson will visit Ipswich tomorrow for a seminar on social inequality in health.

Professor Wilkinson, who has studied the social determinants of health for more than 30 years, will speak at the Metro Hotel Ipswich International.

Prof Wilkinson's most recent book, The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better, aims to explain why income differences have such devastating effects on the social fabric and how this reduces health and wellbeing.

The seminar's host, Healthy Communities Research Centre director Professor Robert Bush, said the centre aimed to provide research to help Ipswich people be healthier.

“The centre continues to support international efforts that are helping to ensure people in their communities have the best opportunity to achieve optimum health,” Prof Bush said.

“The Richard Wilkinson seminar is part of our international efforts.”
