Roar delighted with support

A-LEAGUE championship-winning coach Ange Postecoglou last night thanked Ipswich for helping his team and supporting his club.

“Ipswich worked hard. They were difficult for us and our boys got a solid hit-out,” Postecoglou said after yesterday’s game at the North Ipswich Reserve.

“We’re at that stage of the season where we are just trying to get some fitness into the boys.

“Everyone got a run so we’re very pretty pleased. No injuries, that was the most important thing.”

Postecoglou said the Roar enjoyed returning to Ipswich.

“We’ve got a lot of supporters out here and we’re very mindful of the tough times Ipswich went through this year,” he said.

“For us to come out here is really important.

“A lot of kids would have got their autographs and photos taken with the players. It’s a real important part of what we do.”

Among those in the middle of the fans was Roar captain and national player Matt McKay.

“Last year was exceptional and another good crowd came out today,” McKay said.

“It’s the start of our preparation and we always appreciate coming here because everyone looks after us so well.

“We not only promote Brisbane Roar but promote football as well.

“It’s a growing sport and so big in the junior ranks. I’m happy to come out to Ipswich and support the game.”
