Soccer day for every skill level

SOCCER enthusiasts of all ages and abilities are invited to hone their skills at a free Community Football Day next month.

Event coordinator Nick Martin said the day, hosted by Multicap and Avegate, would see people of all physical abilities join together with a shared love of soccer.

"Ipswich is such a strong soccer, or football, community," he said.

"It will be a great event with adapted drills to suit everyone."

Mr Martin said he hoped to use the free Community Football Day to generate an Ipswich team for a new disability soccer league.

"We want to push for a competition for people with disabilities," he said.

"Soccer is easy to adapt to people of any ability. Our Brisbane South team has people in wheelchairs and even blind soccer players.

"Our goal is to create an Ipswich team to verse Brisbane South and then create teams across the state."

The event, supported by Dan Da Lion Friends, will include inflatable football fields, a barbecue lunch, electric wheelchair games, adapted soccer games, head coaches and community disability service providers with information stalls.

The free Community Football Day will be held at Jim Finimore Park, Old Toowoomba Rd, One Mile on Sunday, December 6 from 10am-1pm.
