Aussies embrace the smartphone

AUSSIES have embraced smartphone technology with a passion.

This year Telstra reported almost half of all mobile phone owners in Australia had a smartphone.

Telstra consumer executive director Rebekah O'Flaherty said demand for smartphone technology had soared in the past year, challenging personal computers as a preferred way to access certain online content.

But not only do these devices make communicating, sharing and sourcing information more convenient, they are creating savvier shoppers.

With the latest applications, smartphone owners can personalise their devices, get organised and save valuable time and money.

Google has listed some top applications available to Android users.

Loot: A bank account ledger that helps you keep track of your personal finances at a glance. It supports simple budgeting, multiple accounts, account transfers, and more.

Barcode Scanner: Scan the barcode of a product and look up reviews and prices of the item online. This app makes finding the best deal on a particular product easy.

Google Maps: Heading out on a shopping spree around town? Find out where you need to go, the best route and how long it will take you with this app.

Mighty Grocery: A simple, easy-to-use app. Keep your grocery shopping list with you at all times and add to it whenever you need an item.

Discount calculator: Quickly determine how much you will save and what the final price will be after applying a discount. Very convenient for working out how much you can save.

Currency converter: Great for travellers shopping overseas. Have this handy little app on hand for tricky calculations.

Google Goggles: Search any item by image. Hold this app up to a product and let Google search for more information on it.

Wishlist: Create and keep a record of gift ideas and products you would love to one day own.

For more information or to download these apps visit Market Android.
