Judge blasts ‘sleazy’ masseur’s ‘despicable’ act

A "sleazy" massage therapist who grabbed a client by the nipples and shook her breasts for a minute has been handed a sentence of suspended imprisonment.

Chinese national Fengqi Li today pleaded guilty to one count of unlawfully and indecently assaulting the woman at Carindale in Brisbane's southeast on August 21.

Brisbane Magistrates Court heard Li was working in a professional capacity for a massage service when he groped the woman during a consultation.

During the incident, which was meant to be a therapeutic massage, Li put the woman's nipples between his fingers and began shaking both breasts while applying pressure with his palms, the court heard.

He then touched her breasts again and the woman, who had paid $118, told him to stop.

Li moved on to her legs before pressing into her groin area with his thumbs and then focusing on her feet, the court heard.

Magistrate Suzette Coates said it was unacceptable behaviour.

"She was most upset by your - what I would describe as - sleazy behaviour," she said.

The court heard Li shouldn't have been working because he was only here to visit family and didn't have employment rights.

Li's barrister Dominic Nguyen said his client was of previous good character, had no criminal history and had pleaded guilty at a very early opportunity, demonstrating "genuine remorse".

Mr Nguyen tendered a number of character references on Li's behalf.

Ms Coates said Li, who hasn't performed massages since, had acted in a "really terribly inappropriate way".

"When a woman goes for a massage with a male one expects them to act in an impeccable manner, which he failed to do," she said.

"There's a certain level of trust that's involved in a massage and he's abused the trust of the young woman who had a massage in a very despicable way, for which she's entitled to protection against."

Li was sentenced to three months' jail, wholly suspended.
