IPSWICH will be giving comedies the flick tonight as video retailers prepare for movie buffs to hire their favourite horror movies.

Video Ezy Ipswich has been getting into the swing of the celebrations by filling the store with smoke and spiders, skeletons and witches hanging from the ceiling.

The Brisbane St store has embraced Halloween more than many local businesses, with employees dressing for the occasion while themed movies and music play in the background.

Store manager Marian Burns said Halloween had become a popular time for movie lovers to watch their favourite scary flicks.

"It's really become a time when people sit back and check out their favourite horror films," he said.

"This year we've got a lot of recently released movies that fit the theme too. From Prometheus to the more comedic Dark Shadows."

But it's still the classics that people really get excited for.

"Movies like the Saw films, or Halloween, the Freddy Kruger series are always popular," Ms Burns said.

"Even things like Jeepers Creepers are really popular this time of year."

Video Ezy Ipswich has embraced the holiday and celebrates Halloween every year.

Ms Burns and the store's employees spent two days decking out their shop in cobwebs, spiders and skulls and preparing a fake smoke machine.

"I love Halloween," she said.

"It's such a fun time of year and a great excuse to dress the store up. We do this every year and people are still always stunned by how the shop looks."

The store has also been trick-or-treating, giving out bags of stickers, lollies, toys and puzzles to children.
