Pisasale on Monday: Sister cities work well
THIS month marks 20 years since the signing of the Sister City Agreement between the City of Ipswich and Nerima City, Japan. Since the signing of the Sister City Agreement in October 1994, the relationship between Nerima City and the City of Ipswich has blossomed and over the years we have embraced each other's cultures and had the pleasure of welcoming visiting groups and individuals to our respective cities. The Ipswich-Nerima relationship is one of the most successful sister city relationships in Queensland. I believe this is only because our cities share a strong understanding of the immeasurable benefits the agreement has provided for our communities.
Congratulations to all the winners of the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce Ipswich Business Awards on Friday night, and a particular well done to the winner of the Mayor's Future Focus Award. Businesses play such a big role in our city, providing jobs and vital services. Well done to all the nominees and the chamber for a great night.
The Goodna Jacaranda Festival starts on Friday night and is on all weekend at Evan Marginson Park, Goodna. There will be plenty of fun activities and entertainment and entry is free. For details visit goodnajacarandafestival.com/
Focal Extended Incorporated celebrated its 40th anniversary on the weekend and I would like to thank the whole team and their supporters for the tremendous work they do in Ipswich. Focal has been supporting people with a disability, their families and carers for 40 years and I hope to see them in Ipswich for many years to come.
It's SES Week and to launch celebrations the SES Week South East Region Awards were held yesterday. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all our SES volunteers and personnel who do a fantastic job.
Last week was Carers Week which recognises and celebrates the outstanding contribution unpaid carers make to our nation. Carers make an enormous contribution to our community by providing care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, drug or alcohol issues or who are frail aged. Thank you to all of Ipswich's carers for your outstanding and selfless work.
