Shorten to discuss insurance

ASSISTANT Treasurer Bill Shorten is in Booval today for a community forum to discuss insurance complaints and concerns with flood victims.

Shayne Neumann, Federal Member for Blair, has challenged individual insurance companies to front up but the QT understands that the Insurance Council of Australia is sending a representative to appear on behalf of insurance companies.

Mr Neumann, who will chair the public meeting, has told the QT that his office has received numerous complaints from residents whose insurance claims have been rejected or left in limbo.

“We've had example after example of insurance companies not paying out,” he said.

Mr Neumann has encouraged all flood victims with an insurance issue to attend the meeting and make themselves known.

The public meeting will be held at Swifts Bowls Club, Green Street, Booval from 1pm.
