She's truly out of her comfort zone

GLOWING with excitement, a young Pine Mountain woman is confident about the upcoming state finals for the RSL Queensland Girl in a Million Charity Queen.

Rebekah Belle dedicated 12 months in fundraising for the cause, interlaced with six stints in hospital this year alone for chronic pain from nerve damage, and said her achievements had been a blessing.

“I hope I am a good example and encourage others to move out of their comfort zone,” Ms Belle said.

“Get out there and take on something that will push you.

“I've met some great girls along the way and am really excited to see them at the state finals.”

Ms Belle will represent the Railway RSL sub-branch after she raised the most money out of 10 entrants in the Moreton district.

She did so through approaching businesses and talking about the cause, gaining corporate sponsorship and Friday night raffles at her club.

If selected, Ms Belle will be the final Charity Queen as the RSL has decided to shift its direction to other youth initiatives such as the RSL youth development program.

Ms Belle encouraged other young people to look for ways they could help others in their community.

“It shows what can be achieved when the community works together,” she said.

“I have proven to myself that I can still accomplish many things and it just might have to take a different path and work within my limitations.”

Ms Belle said she had met serving and ex-service men and women who had extraordinary stories of what they had gone through.

Finalists from the 10 RSL districts in Queensland will take part in the state final week in Brisbane from July 27 to August 1.

RSL state president Doug Formby said the quest had raised more than $12 million for veterans' welfare during the past 50 years.
