SHARK ALERT: Coast beach evacuated after shark sighting

ONE OF the Sunshine Coast's most popular beaches has been closed by lifesavers after a shark sighting today.

Surf Life Saving Queensland has just advised Kings Beach has been shut down only moments ago after a shark was spotted.

The beach was evacuated and has now been closed.

Surf Life Saving Queensland Sunshine Coast regional manager Aaron Purchase advised Kings Beach has been reopened to the public after a shark sighting this morning.

Mr Purchase said members of the public at the Kings Beach ocean pool deck spotted a 4-5ft shark just after 10.30am.

The lifeguard on-deck also sighted the shark and lifeguards on jet skis headed to the scene to try and deter the shark.

The beach was evacuated and after about an hour it was reopened.
