Former Rosewood singer debuts at number two on US charts

MOVE over Beyonce and Britney Spears, there's a new singing star taking the American music charts by storm.

Former Rosewood singer, songwriter and musician Shanon Watkins has beaten them in the American Top 20 Radio Dance Club Chart with his new song debuting in the number two spot.

His song One by One debuted behind Avicii but ahead of artists such as Beyonce, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, Pitbull, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake, just to name a few.

"I could not believe how successful this first song has been," Watkins said.

"When I found out it had reached the number two spot, I was just in shock. To be so highly regarded by the American people is an amazing feeling."

The American public has loved the new catchy tune so much that the song has also appeared in the number five spot on the Top 30 Radio Chart.

Watkins' song, which originally had more of an "organic" format, was remixed by award-winning US remix producers KlubJumpers before its release. He is now recording his follow-up single, which will also get the treatment by KlubJumpers. There are now plans for an American tour.

Watkins described his recent success as a dream come true.

"This is what I have always wanted to do," he said. "As I was growing up in Rosewood, I was always writing and playing an instrument."

Watkins had help reaching his dream by Brisbane recording agency Go2 Records, who signed him after hearing how good he was. Go2 Records' managing director Michael "China" Walker said instantly appearing in the top 10 American charts was a great result for Watkins' first single.

"As a small Brisbane record label and this being our first go at the American market, we had hoped we would realise some kind of chart interest, but this result is a very pleasant surprise," Mr Walker said. "This will help us continue to build a career for Shanon."
