SES honours volunteers after 40 years

IPSWICH region volunteers were among those to be rewarded for outstanding service to the SES.

The awards were presented at Moogerah Dam in October as part of national SES Week celebrations.

Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden said this year was the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the SES in Queensland.

"It is thanks to the hard work and outstanding efforts of volunteers who give up their time that the SES is so dependable and valuable in times of need," Mr Madden said.

"SES volunteers take time that could be spent with family to help the community in times of crisis, and they spend countless hours training and building their capability," he said.

"Thank you to all our SES members and to their families and employers for supporting these extraordinary people and the work they do."

The south-eastern region comprises five SES Units, each corresponding to the local government areas of the City of Gold Coast, Ipswich City Council, Logan City Council, Somerset Regional Council and Scenic Rim Council.

SES Week awards were also presented to volunteers who displayed exceptional dedication to their SES Units or Groups and communities.

Volunteers who received SES Week certificates were: Caitlin Wollaston (Esk SES Group), Jeffrey Lindsay (Ipswich SES Group), Alex 'Ken' McKellar (Harrisville SES Group), and Ken Ord (Ipswich SES Group).

Other volunteers with 40 years' service to receive special mention at the awards were Ross Elliott (Ipswich SES Group), Russell Ladlay (Ipswich SES Group).
