Seqwater extend opening hours of recreation areas

IN response to community feedback, Seqwater has decided to trial extended opening hours of its recreation areas throughout summer.

From December 1, visitors will be able to enjoy land and water-based activities from 5.30am until 6.30pm.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Peter Dennis said strong community support during Seqwater's recreation review had influenced the change.

"You told us the opening hours should more closely correspond to daylight hours and we are more than happy to deliver on this suggestion," Mr Dennis said.

"During the next 12 months we'll trial extended hours between September and April, and slightly shorter opening hours between May and August.

"I have no doubt the new extended opening hours will be a huge hit this summer, especially with our fishing enthusiasts who don't mind an early start."

The opening hours for the trial period are:

September to April from 5.30am to 6.30pm and May to August from 6.30am to 5.30pm.

Mr Dennis said the new hours would apply to all Seqwater lakes and parks where recreation is permitted, in line with the current activities at each lake.

He reminded visitors to be vigilant about their safety, especially early in the morning or late afternoon.
