Self belief enables Jets five-eighth to overcome tough times
JOSH and Samantha Cleeland have been a couple for almost five years.
They got together when Cleeland was an aspiring Jets colts player whose dreams had suffered a setback with a knee ligament injury that required a reconstruction.
When Cleeland returned to the Jets after his operation, he was forced to admit defeat.
He had put on so much weight he was unable to complete pre-season training.
Samantha was with him through his lowest ebb.
But what followed proved the making of the rugged pivot and the longevity of his relationship with Samantha.
Cleeland went back to Ipswich club side Swifts, got fit and took out the Ipswich Rugby League Player of the Year award.
From there he returned to the Jets and has gone from strength to strength, playing a dominant role in their Queensland Cup and State Challenge title triumphs this year.
"I'm excited," Samantha said of their impending move to Sydney's southern suburbs.
"Josh has been chasing this dream for a very long time and it's starting to pay off."
Samantha never had any doubt this day would come, either for their wedding or his NRL contract.
"I always knew Josh was going to play NRL," she said.
"We all believed in him."
