SPLENDOUR in the Grass 2014 comes to an end, leaving behind a long list of memories in the minds of performers, volunteers, crew and punters.

These are some of the magic moments witnessed at the festival at Yelgun that amused us, delighted us or warmed our hearts:

Whoever said that beards are out was wrong. At Splendour there were long beards, well groomed ones, scruffy ones but sadly, we cannot report of any beards with flowers.

Meggings, another item of men's fashion, are leggings for men. This year's trend included mandatory fluoro patterns, but the Itchy for the Sake of Fashion Award goes to the tall guy with the woollen meggins. Oh dear.

Also amongst the blur of impressions:

* Confirmation that long brimmed felt hats matched with really short shorts are not to be worn on a cold winter night.

* Spiderbait rocking the Amphitheatre with Dan Sultan as guest guitarist.

* People trying to figure out what The Skywhale was supposed to be.

* Paying $7 for a lemonade (without ice, not in a cocktail glass and with no tequila in it).

* Saskwatch guitarist and songwriter Liam Mc Gorry going up the side of the stage until the cable connected to his guitar stopped him from going higher, and playing from that position during the last song of the band's performance on Friday.

* Punters rolling down the hill (literally) to the music of Violent Soho.

* Art vs. Science taking their shirts off while playing their hit Parlez-vous Francais?

* Free Like Me singing 'How do you live your life working nine to five? You are barely alive' to a mob of accountants, IT consultants and admin assistants from Brisbane at the Global Village stage yesterday.

* Venezuela-born Daniel Urbina from Free Like Me donning a very exotic accent, long black hair, a big smile and no shirt (but an open jacket) while talking to reporters at the Media tent.

* Future Islands frontman Samuel T. Herring winning the Award for the Most Strange Faces Pulled in One Single Show.

* RUFUS telling their audience at a full-to-the-brim Mix Up Stage that they wrote their first song in Ocean Shores.

* The screening yesterdayof 'How To Lose Jobs & Alienate Girlfriends', a doco made by a guy who saw no possible conflict in making a film about his boss and his girlfriend's attempts to star a music career.

* Today's terrible hangover from a fantastic three-day weekend at Splendour.

* The promise of next year's festival.
