Secret shoppers target bad service
AFTER a string of bad retail experiences, one Ipswich shopper had had enough.
And her response to poor service might just change retail in Ipswich forever.
The shopper, who has asked not to be named, last week launched undercovercustomer.com.au, a mystery shopper website designed to praise the best and reprimand the worst of local customer service.
The Undercover Customer said the website would take submissions from the public about businesses with consistently good or bad customer service for them to review.
"We want to highlight consistently good and consistently negative retail experiences," she said.
Despite bad experience providing the inspiration for the website, the Undercover Customer said she wanted to recognise the best Ipswich businesses had to offer as well.
"I don't want it all to be negative," she said. "In fact our first review was a positive one."
Undercover Customer's launch review was of Ipswich-based restaurant Indian Mehfil, praising the food and the service provided by the restaurant's staff.
The shopper said Undercover Customer would recognise good customer service by providing businesses with a symbol they could use to advertise the recognition they had received.
"There are other review sites out there, like Urban Spoon for restaurants, but the businesses get no recognition for it themselves."
The shopper has called on shoppers impressed or disappointed by stores to submit their review ideas to the website, and emphasised that businesses were welcome to submit themselves for review.
Undercover Customer can be found at undercovercustomer.com.au or on Facebook.
