Sandy Gallop home to future stars

SANDY Gallop Golf Club's strong and increasing junior base was highlighted at the recent Met West championships.

Seven of the club's juniors gained selection in the Metropolitan West team travelling to the state titles at Wynnum Golf Course from July 14-17.

Ten-year old twins Mikaela and Ashlee Verrall will play in their first state championship.

Since taking up the game 12 months ago, the pair have come a long way.

Joshua Etherden, 11, also made the primary team and will compete in his first state championship.

Josh has been playing golf at Sandy Gallop for many years.

Lauren Ziebarth, 13, is in the Met West team for the second year, although this is her first in the secondary team. Last year Lauren was the State Primary nett runner-up.

Meanwhile, Sandy Gallop's experienced junior golfers Tahlia Condon, Kiara and Matthew Frohmuller were selected in the secondary team along with Lauren.

Tahlia, 15, will compete in her fifth state championships.

Tahlia is hoping to take her winning form into the titles.

She's the Sandy Gallop Ladies Club Champion, was selected as a reserve for the BDLGA Junior Jug team and has dropped her handicap (six), by four shots already this year,

Matthew Frohmuller, 15, had a wonderful start to the year.

In the first half of 2013, he was selected in the Queensland team to play in the State of Origin (against NSW) in January.

He enjoyed success at club level, winning the Sandy Gallop Men's Club Championship, Junior Club Championship and the Junior Masters. He has halved his handicap (three).

Matt's selection in the team will be a great asset as a mentor to the younger team members.

At the 2012 state championships, Kiara Frohmuller was the under 19 girls nett winner.

This year, Kiara will play her last 10-19 years state championships.

The 17 year old has played some solid golf this year and is looking forward to her last championships with mixed emotions.

Regardless of how Met West fares, Sandy Gallop and the juniors have already won with their talents recognised.
