Saltwater anglers snap up mackerel
FROM the few reports coming in recently, due to the weather, saltwater anglers have been catching mackerel close in around the Gold Coast reefs.
Pilchards are one of the most successful baits.
However, lure fishermen are certain to snag a few toothy critters on fast retrieve and jigged chrome lures.
Jewfish and snapper have also been caught in the Brisbane River mouth, on fresh dead baits and livies.
Mangrove jack fisherman have also been successful with dead and live baits on the Gold Coast riverways.
Lure fishos can pin a few fish on suspending lures with these warm humid nights.
On the freshwater scene, the Maroon and Moogerah lakes have been producing well.
Slow rolling Jackall TN60 and TN50 lures around Moogerah weed beds have been a simple but effective technique.
Trolling a few diving lures will also snare bass and yellowbelly.
At Maroon Dam, try shallow spinnerbaits and crankbaits over freshly flooded weed.
