Salon lifts hair to new level

YAMANTO has a new look hair and beauty salon catering to both women's and gents' hair styles.

Michelle Jesberg, director of MJ's Hair & Beauty brings a wealth of experience and has established this business in the bustling Warwick Rd shopping centre, on the corner of Ash St.

It is a welcome return to main stream hairdressing for Ms Jesberg.

"Coming into this business I want to take things to a new level; it is about good quality service and products," Ms Jesberg said.

The business combines a range of services which includes a traditional barber shop, ladies' hair salon and a beauty section.

"It is an old fashioned barber shop feel for the gents where we do not do appointments," she said.

"It works really well and of course we can cater for all hair styles for our male clients.

The ladies' salon is by appointment and provides the full range of services.

"I think that there are a lot of ladies who will welcome having a salon in the area," Ms Jesberg said.

"Again, we are catering for all age ranges with staff that can provide the skills to undertake the variety of styles."

For Michelle Jesberg, it is a return to a full salon service after a number of years away.

As a young woman, she undertook her apprenticeship with well-known Ipswich hairdresser and entrepreneur Gaye Anderson.

"I learned a great deal through my time with Gaye and, after eight years after finishing my apprenticeship, I opened my own salon, Hi/style Hair Design at Bundamba," she said.

"It went really well but eventually we started a family so I needed to take time out."

Once family had come to the age where Ms Jesberg could return to some hairdressing she decided to establish it as a home-based business at Brookwater.

"I am born and bred in Ipswich, went to St Mary's school and I am a proud Ipswichian," she said.

"I think the city is growing in leaps and bounds and it is great to be part of the business community."

MJ's was established about a month ago in former hair salon premises as a going concern.

Ms Jesberg has already added her own touch to the salon.

She is also passionate about training and ensuring the hairdressing maintains high standards.

"I have one second-level and a third-level staff member, both of whom I want to train and ensure they are taught some of the 'old school' techniques," she said.

In the ladies' salon we are catering to a wide range of services that include trims, colours, foils and their specialisation in hair extensions.

"The biggest thing for ladies colour work is still in fluoro work but we are seeing a trend moving towards a more natural look.

"We are mixing colours that enhance the overall look that ladies want," she said.

At the moment MJs is offering a June special, giving away 10 free foils with every cut and blow dry. More information and ongoing specials can be found on their Facebook page. Go to facebook.com/mjshairandbeautyyamanto.

"At the end of the day it is always about being creative," Ms Jesberg said.

"We have lots of new technology but it will always be about the ability of the hairdresser to execute the work.

"I want to ensure my team understand the fundamental skills. In fact, I am very keen to ensure that hairdressers do remember that as they grow in their career they never move beyond knowing the basics and draw on their creativity."

MJ's Hair & Beauty offers pensioner discounts as well as discounts for service personnel and those working in the emergency services.

Located at 384 Warwick Rd, Yamanto it is just near Red Rooster in the shopping complex.

The salon is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, until 7pm Thursday and Saturday until 2pm.
