Rubbish truck catches fire on Bribie and dumps load on road

Crews are cleaning up a large pile of rubbish from Benabrow Ave, Bellara from an earlier incident involving a garbage truck.

The rubbish remains in the left lane near the information centre heading west.

Smoke was detected coming from the back of the truck earlier today at which point the driver pulled over to attempt to control the fire.

The driver attempted to extinguish the fire by hosing the truck and using a fire extinguisher. The fire was eventually extinguished by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service. The driver dumped the rubbish on the road to bring the fire under control.

Police are in attendance and minimal delays are expected.
