Rock hits train window at overpass

A ROCK smashed into the windscreen of a city-bound train after being thrown from an overpass at Ipswich this afternoon.

The incident was reported to have occurred between Ipswich and East Ipswich stations about 1.10pm.

The passenger train had to be replaced by another service, causing slight delays for commuters.

There were no injuries.

Queensland Rail chief operations officer Kevin Wright said the prompt reporting of the incident by train drivers enabled Railway Squad officers to respond quickly.

"Throwing rocks at trains is not only dangerous to the train driver, but also to customers travelling on the train and to the person throwing the rocks," Mr Wright said.

"Queensland Rail will continue to work with police to conduct future operations to combat anti-social behaviour on the rail network."
