School principal punched in bungled robbery

UPDATE: POLICE are appealing for public information after a would-be armed robber attacked a school principal.

The offender was disturbed while rummaging through property at Camira State School about 5pm, Tuesday.

The principal was threatened with a letter opener, then punched in the face after she activated an alarm.

Ipswich CIB officer in charge Detective Senior Sergeant Heath McQueen said it was concerning that a man would be so desperate as to break into a primary school, then attack a lone female.

"The victim is ok but very shaken up," he said.

"It is very concerning that we have people that are that desperate."

EARLIER: POLICE are investigating an attempted armed robbery at an education facility on Old Logan Road in Camira yesterday.

Around 5pm a female staff member disturbed an unknown man inside a building. The man demanded money and threatened the staff member with a letter opener. The woman activated an alarm and as a result the man assaulted the woman then fled the scene on foot empty handed.

The female staff member was treated for minor injuries to her head.

The man is described as aged in his 20's, approximately 170cm tall with a slim build and Caucasian.

He was last seen wearing a hooded jumper, sunglasses and dark coloured shorts.

Investigations are continuing.
