RIVERS RISING: Second flood watch notice issued for Coast

UPDATE 2.20PM: 

THE CURRENT deluge dumping on the Sunshine Coast has sparked a fresh flood watch to be issued by Bureau of Meteorology forecasters this afternoon.

Forecasters advised river levels are continuing to rise, with a flood watch issued for Sunshine Coast rivers and creeks and the Pine and Caboolture Rivers.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is still tipped to fall throughout this afternoon and tomorrow, with isolated rainfall totals of up to 300mm expected.

Falls of 100mm-300mm have already been recorded across the region in the past 48 hours, as an intense rain system ramps up.

CLOSURES: Schools, community assets close as weather hits

River level rises above minor flood levels are possible from today for the local catchments.

The authorities are reminding motorists to avoid driving through floodwaters.

An official flood warning has been issued for the Mary River this afternoon.

The following Coast roads remain open, but drivers are being warned to proceed with caution:

Pryor Road, Verrierdale

Doonan Bridge Road, Coolum Beach

35 Hunchy Road, Palmwoods

Mayers Road, Towen Mountain

McGilchrist Road, Chevallum McGilchrist Road, Chevallum

Nambour Connection Road, Nambour

SEVERAL Coast roads have been closed following heavy rainfall and flooding overnight.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a flood watch at 10.14pm last night stating rainfall totals between 60-150mm had been recorded in the past 48 hours with some areas receiving 200mm.

The Sunshine Coast Council has closed the following roads due to water over the roads and flooding in areas:

Slaughter Yard Road, Eudlo

Short Street, Nambour

Grays Road, Doonan

Pryor Road, Verrierdale

Doonan Bridge Road East, Doonan

 Vee Road, Yandina
