River expected to hit 16m

PREMIER Anna Bligh has warned that Ipswich could face major flooding with the Brisbane River expected to hit 16m.

Ipswich City Division 4 Councillor Trevor Nardi warned even more homes at Karalee could be affected by flooding than first expected.

Cr Nardi said the Bremer River at Ipswich was expected to peak at midnight tonight.

Police have warned the Ipswich Motorway will close this morning due to flooding.

Hatton Vale and Minden Village were being evacuated last night due to rapidly rising waters and Laidley and Forest Hill are being evacuated today.

With storms predicted for Ipswich today, the Amberley recording station received 39.4mm of rain in the 24 hours until 9am this morning.

Meanwhile, Six people are dead and hundreds more are missing as floodwaters continue the inundate the Lockyer Valley.

Thousands of Lockyer Valley residents remain on high alert as flash flooding inundated parts of the region last night.
