31-year-old dead CQ prisoner believed to be Mackay man

Update 3.05pm: THE prisoner found dead in his cell at Capricornia Correctional Centre Farm on Tuesday is believed to be Michael Blutcher.

Blutcher, 31, would have been eligible for release next month.

He was serving two years for break and enter offences after being jailed for two years in February.

Blutcher was found in his cell at 8.49am and the Queensland Ambulance Service pronounced the prisoner dead at 9.29am. 

Police and Corrective Services are still looking into the cause of death - all deaths in custody are referred to the coroner for investigation and the Chief Inspector of Prisons will also investigate the death.

The prisoner's family in Mackay has been informed.
 

Update 2pm today: INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the death of a prisoner at Capricornia Correctional Centre Farm on Tuesday.

The body of the 31-year-old prisoner was found in his cell at 8.49am Tuesday morning and the Queensland Ambulance Service pronounced the prisoner dead at 9.29am.

He was serving a two year sentence for break and enter and had been at the farm since March.

All deaths in custody are referred to the coroner for investigation. 

The Chief Inspector of Prisons will also investigate the death.

Tuesday 10am: A PRISONER at the Capricornia Correctional Centre Farm has died this morning.

Police and Corrective Services are investigating the death of a prisoner at the Capricornia Correctional Centre Farm this morning.

The Queensland Ambulance Service declared the prisoner's life extinct at 9.29am.
