Redbank Plains High have a winning crew in endurance

REDBANK Plains State High students demonstrated their pedal power at the recent RACQ All Schools Pedal Prix competition at Willowbank Raceway.

The competition was a three hour endurance race on recumbent tricycles.

The aim was to keep the trike doing laps of a 400m course in teams of eight, featuring six riders and two pit crew.

The team with the most laps at the end of the three hours won.

This year Redbank Plains High's Special Education Program entered three teams into the junior division coming away with first and second place, as well as receiving the "Best Pit Crew Award'' for the entire day.

The pit crew award was out of about 25 teams.

Redbank Plains High's winning team thrashed out an incredible 137 laps in three hours, a remarkable lead of 14 laps.

"The Pedal Prix event relies heavily on strong teamwork and communication skills and our three teams certainly showed that on the day,'' teacher Ashleigh Lowe said.

"Coming away with outstanding results was just a bonus.''
