Recovery grants welcomed

FEDERAL MP Shayne Neumann has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement of grants for eligible charitable businesses and not-for-profit organisations following the Queensland floods and Cyclone Yasi.

“This is good news for not-for-profit groups in Ipswich and the Somerset region,” Mr Neumann said.

“These grants will help not-for-profit groups in these areas get back on their feet to enable them to again provide important local-based services like counselling, medical care, child care, family counselling, job training and employment services.”

He said the category-C grants were activated under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery arrangements.

He said they provided recovery grants of up to $25,000 for not-for-profit organisations in 36 local government areas including Ipswich City Council and Somerset Regional Council areas.

“The Federal Labor Government will be the primary funder of these grants, expecting to contribute up to 75 per cent of total expenditure, with the remainder to come from the Queensland Government,” he said.
