Readers vote for new Costco store to head west
READERS have shown US supermarket giant Costco where the demand for a new store is - Ipswich.
Close to 300 people liked or shared the post on the QT's Facebook page on Costco looking in the Western Corridor at sites for a second store in Queensland.
Wacol and Springfield were identified as possible sites.
More than 200 readers made comments suggesting where they would like to see the store.
Carl Wallace said the company had to look at the growth in Ipswich.
"Since Ipswich is expanding as fast as it is, Ipswich would be the best spot. You have Ripley, Yamanto and the increasing size of RAAF Amberley," Mr Wallace said.
Many readers voted against the store going to Springfield.
Lorraine Broady said everything was heading to Springfield.
"Springfield, they get everything," Ms Broady said.
Nicholas Byenhof agreed.
"Seems like Ipswich has become the poor cousin to Springfield when it comes to getting new stuff," Mr Byenhof said.
Carmen Zvonar also voted against Springfield as a site.
"It's time to revamp Ipswich with new stores," Ms Zvonar said.
"The best spot would be to put it at Yamanto," Chris Warwick said.
"Don't put it at Springfield."
Tim Neilsen suggested the Ripley Valley.
"Ikea and Costco in the Ripley Valley," Mr Neilsen said.
"Right between the two main population centres of Ipswich central and Springfield.
"The projected population growth in the next 25 years for Ripley is 120,000 people so it makes sense."
Tracey Woods said she just wanted Costco to come to Ipswich.
"I don't care where in Ipswich just as long as it's Ipswich," Ms Woods said.
Kirsty Todd agreed.
"Anywhere in the Ipswich area would be great. Saves me driving all the way to North Lakes," Ms Todd said.
Where would be the best place to locate a new Costco in the Ipswich region?
