Readers disgust at suspended sentence for live baiting
ANIMAL activist groups say disgraced greyhound trainer Tom Noble's suspended sentence for his "barbaric" acts of animal cruelty "completely fails community expectations".
"For one of the worst of the worst to be convicted of serious animal cruelty, and get off with a slap on the wrist is a real disappointment for anyone committed to fighting animal cruelty," Animal Liberation Qld president Chay Neal said. "While the courts and prosecutors are slowly starting to take animal cruelty more seriously, we still have a long way to go.
"We do not believe this penalty gives an adequate deterrent to other greyhound trainers and we renew our call for the Queensland Government to ban greyhound racing."
Do you agree? Does this penalty fit the crime or is it a "slap on the wrist"?
Here's what you said on Facebook
Kat Thorn - I think "Mr Chay" was 100% right. It is a disgusting industry and should be shut down immediately. Noble should serve the full three years in jail.
Colin Damant - So this guy deliberately had animals suffer and put through hell for financial gain. Mmmmm clear cut to me.
Larry Barrow - He made poor animals suffer so why shouldn't he suffer in jail with his medical condition? That is more than what his dogs and other animals got. No justice, the system is disgusting.
Sandie Mustchin - Absolutely DISGUSTING. Judge should be stood down. Noble and his bunch of fellow baiters and animal abusers should ALL be jailed with no exceptions.
Alex Stevens - With all this, why is the Ipswich City Council still persisting with trying to get a new greyhound track? The sport has been terrible for so long, I doubt they would even know where to start to clean it up. I think QLD should follow NSW and ban it all together.
Scott Jackson - Old school trainers do old school things. I don't agree with it but I've seen worse. For some reason people put animal lives at a higher priority than people. Start putting murderers and rapists and child molesters away for longer periods before we worry about some old guy doing bad things with pigs. It's called perspective, look it up. He hurt pigs. These judges let child rapists go on good behaviour bonds. Get my point.
Maxine Melloy - Disgusted! Just goes to show you can torture animals in the name of sport and get away with it. I don't know who I am disgusted more by... him or the judge.
Cam Jay - The sentenced time should be served in full, a medical condition is no excuse. He is well and truly old enough to know right from wrong. Do the crime do the full time.
Janine Buckland - He's only sorry because he was caught. Heartless. Has no feelings for those animals he tortured.
Gaius Gracchus - Tom Noble should be ashamed to show his face in public.
PatTom Coomber - Toothless tigers the courts are nowadays. Nothing to deter offenders from doing these crimes again and again.
Glenn Dawson - What's wrong with our courts. So out of touch with society's expectations.
Katei Rae - Australia: you can do whatever you want and get away with it. I feel as if I have said this before.
Kerry Broderick - No, not all... when people doing more disgusting things to human beings get lesser sentences... oh, wait they get none.
